Land Acknowledgment
Sylas Supports recognizes that our work takes place on lands that have long been cared for by Indigenous peoples. Our business operates on the unceded homeland of the Nuuchiu (Ute) people, which is comprised of 12 historic bands. Team members of Sylas Supports have lived and worked on the ancestral lands of the Congaree, Delaware (Lenni Lenape), Miami/Prairie Algonquians (Oumamik), and Cherokee (Keetoowah/Tsalagi) peoples, among others.
We acknowledge the painful histories of colonization, displacement, and ongoing harm experienced by Indigenous communities. We commit to learning from and honoring the original caretakers of these lands, supporting Indigenous-led efforts, and working to unlearn the violence of imperialistic capitalism. Sylas Supports believes in the necessity of reparations and actively seeks ways to contribute to the repair and healing of Black and Brown communities harmed within these borders.
While our team members hold various marginalized identities, we acknowledge that all employees of Sylas Supports are white. We recognize that whiteness affords privileges and protections that are not equitably shared. We are committed to using our position to advocate for justice, equity, and the honoring of Indigenous ancestors and contemporary Indigenous peoples.
To learn more about the histories of the lands where we work and live, we encourage engagement with organizations such as Haseya Advocates and People of the Sacred Land, which document the founding of Colorado Springs and its surrounding areas.
